Technological innovation and training for the business fabric and recruitment of young talent for companies.

The metropolitan area of Barcelona is committed to strengthening social cohesiveness by establishing itself as a leading territory in the fields of economic, technological and social innovation.

The plan is for local authorities to act along with universities, companies, centres of excellence and other economic and social stakeholders to establish cutting-edge, specialised innovation centres that function as spaces of creativity. These initiatives will be founded on the exchange of good practices in innovation in the field of economic promotion and on the training of "innovation agents" who will work to spearhead the projects.

In order to help make these new projects a reality, financing has been provided via an investment fund under the name "1st opportunity". This fund will help create prototypes and carry out pilot programmes in fields such as sustainable construction, the development of technological tools and transport.

The initiatives in this field also seek to attract young talent to the area. That is why there is a programme to provide guidance and mentorship to young entrepreneurs. MetròpolisFPLab is intended to act as a nexus of companies and vocational training centres and to help stimulate entrepreneurship, teamwork, experimentation and the growth of key competences. Along the same lines, metropolitan Innobús works to foster new challenges and projects, in this case among university students and graduates under 40 who are unemployed.

Hub Talent Metropolis Barcelona

This project will help establish a network of specialised, cutting-edge centres in the metropolitan area that will lead the way as spaces of creativity and innovation. The aim is for the region to be at the forefront of innovative economic, social and technological projects and initiatives. Local authorities will get the training and support they need to achieve this and to successfully identify and promote innovative projects while also encouraging the sort of mixed-use spaces that help foster social cohesiveness.

This network will serve as a metropolitan-scale forum to exchange good practices in the fields of economic promotion and the training of innovation agents. It will be a place to share and coordinate the experiences emerging from the projects being carried out around the area and to seek out collaborative and cooperative mechanisms to further economic regeneration.

Business training and technological advice

Helping local cities transition into the economy of the future: knowledge, sustainable energy, energy efficiency, the digital transition, Industry 4.0, localised and circular production.

The programme's approach to achieving these goals will be based on strategic innovation plans. These plans are designed to serve as diagnostic tools that analyse the current situation in each city and identify what steps need to be taken to spark innovation. These strategic documents will also define objectives, areas of work and specific initiatives to be taken. There are also plans to create specialised guidance and training programmes for business that will help the local and metropolitan-scale business fabric grow. These programmes will encourage companies to experiment with new, more innovative and sustainable business models and to incorporate the latest professional and technological trends into their work.

Entrepreneurship and young talent

Providing support for innovative projects by putting young talent in touch with the business world and by fostering social and technological entrepreneurship in order to meet the social challenges faced by companies and other stakeholders in the metropolitan area.

This will be achieved via a programme of grants to provide assistance and guidance to new entrepreneurs involved in social and technological innovation. Furthermore, there will be an initiative to forge connections between young entrepreneurs and metropolitan area businesses in the form of a series of visits to companies, where the entrepreneurs will be presented with some of the challenges the companies need to meet. The goal of this initiative is to serve as a nexus between businesses and vocational training centres in order to promote entrepreneurship and teamwork and to foster the growth of key skills and of experimentation.
